Starting September 2010, Brentwood Elementary School will begin it's school of choice program focused on Leadership and Business. The center of the plan is a book called "The Leader in Me" by Stephen Covey. The book looks at schools and how they can effectively teach students his seven habits of highly effective people and preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.
Part of the leadership and business program will include a Jr. Chamber and Jr. Rotary program at the school. Students will host their own events, find business speakers, get involved in community programs and attend outside events with the goal of coming back with ideas about how to implement those events at the school level.
One thing the school is interested in doing is mirroring chamber events, including the State of the City Address and Leadership Victor Valley.
The school plans to make the students an integral piece of how the school is run, with a voice and a presence in the school. Read the entire article "Brentwood is All Business", on page 8, in the Victorville Chamber's "The Insight".
Next year our school will be implementing a business and leadership curriculum focus. To enhance the culture of our new theme, we will be adapting a new dress code policy.

The purpose of enforcing a dress code is to: alleviate discipline problems pertaining to clothing, ensure student safety, promote equality among all students, and to instill a sense of community.
Research also shows that schools who have adopted a uniform policy show improved academics and fewer behavioral violations.

When parents choose to send their children to Brentwood Elementary, they acknowledge that the school maintains policies, curriculum, and expectations that are unique to Brentwood. By enrolling their children in a School of Choice, parents accept the importance of our policies in making Brentwood students successful, in creating a safe and positive learning environment.
By signing the school contract, parents demonstrate an understanding and commitment to honor our policies that are unique to Brentwood. By signing this contract, parents recognize that failure to honor this contract may result in exclusion from Brentwood Elementary School. Click here to open the school contract.

My name is Ray Kinyon and I am currently a Brentwood’s PTA Board Member. My wife and I have been involved with the PTA for the last 4 years. We have worked with several wonderful people who have dedicated many volunteer hours. We have learned alot from each other in many different ways. It is with sad news that some of our small but dedicated team is moving on to newer challenges in their lives. We only wish the best for them in their endeavors.
Some of the events that our team have supported include Star Celebration, book fair, fundraisers, community awareness night, spirit wear, school dances, movie nights, mother / daughter tea, father / daughter dance, spaghetti night, harvest festival, Maverick baseball family night, Box Tops for Education, clothing exchange & game night, canned food drive and teacher appreciation week, Young Authors, Spelling Bee, and Grade Specific Activities.
Some of you might know our school will be transitioning to a school of choice. We hope that the PTA will be involved in this transition and continue bringing events to our school. But we cannot do it without your help.
We are in need of volunteers to fill some key PTA positions for next year. I know that volunteering looks different to each of us, whether it’s in our classroom, on field trips or making copies. Every little thing we can do benefits our children and it is very appreciated by the school.
To have a PTA organization at our school there are three board positions we must have, President, Treasurer and Secretary. An effective PTA cannot run with just 3 positions, we need more volunteers in other positions too. PTA volunteer board member positions range from involved in weekly activities to just a few hours a month from home to a few hours volunteering at school or an event.
Here are some positions that require just a few hours from home and/or attend a monthly meeting: Secretary, Membership Chairman, Auditor, Hospitality Coordinator, Financial Secretary, Historian, Volunteer Coordinator, Parliamentarian, Programs Chairman, Fundraising Chairman and Communications Coordinator.
